Cindy Sheehan

Cindy Sheehan, born on July 10, 1957, is a prominent American peace activist, politician, and podcaster. She gained national and international recognition in August 2005 when she staged an extended anti-war protest outside President George W. Bush's Texas ranch. This protest was a response to the death of her son, U.S. Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, who was killed during the Iraq War. Her stand drew both passionate support and criticism, marking a significant moment in the anti-war movement.

In 2006, Sheehan published her memoir, 'Peace Mom: A Mother's Journey Through Heartache to Activism,' which chronicles her transformation from a grieving mother to a vocal advocate for peace. Sheehan's activism did not wane over the years; in an interview with The Daily Beast in 2017, she expressed her continued criticism of George W. Bush and also condemned the militarism of Donald Trump.

Sheehan's political ambitions led her to run for Congress in 2008, although she was unsuccessful. She later became the vice presidential nominee of the Peace and Freedom Party in 2012, alongside Roseanne Barr. In the 2014 California gubernatorial primary election, she garnered one point two percent of the statewide vote, further solidifying her presence in the political landscape.
