Clark Winslow Ross, born in Maracaibo in nineteen fifty-seven, is a distinguished Canadian composer, guitarist, and music educator with Venezuelan roots. His musical journey began at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he enrolled in nineteen eighty and earned an Associate diploma by nineteen eighty-five. Under the tutelage of Samuel Dolin, he honed his skills in music composition, later advancing his studies at the University of Toronto with John Beckwith, culminating in a Master of Music in nineteen eighty-six and a Doctor of Music in nineteen ninety-two.

Throughout his career, Ross has made significant contributions to orchestral and chamber music, garnering first prizes in prestigious composition competitions, including those held by the Hamilton Philharmonic and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in nineteen ninety-three, as well as Symphony Nova Scotia in two thousand two. His works, celebrated for their depth and creativity, have been performed across North America and Europe, showcasing his talent and dedication to the craft.

In addition to his accomplishments as a composer, Ross has been an influential educator. He taught at the Royal Conservatory from nineteen eighty-seven to nineteen ninety-two and at McMaster University during the academic year of nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-one. Since nineteen ninety-two, he has served as a professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in electronic music, guitar, music composition, music theory, and orchestration. His commitment to research was recognized with Memorial University's President's Award for Outstanding Research in nineteen ninety-nine.

Ross's artistic endeavors have also included notable residencies, such as at the Banff Centre for the Arts in nineteen eighty-eight and Stanford University in nineteen eighty-nine. Outside of his professional life, he is married to Jennifer Porter, a Religious Studies professor at MUN, and is a proud father to Julia, Andrew, and Alexander.
