Claudette Bradshaw

Claudette Bradshaw, born on April eighth, nineteen forty-nine, was a prominent Canadian politician and executive director who made significant contributions to her community and country. She represented the riding of Moncton—Riverview—Dieppe in New Brunswick as a Member of Parliament (MP) from June second, nineteen ninety-seven, until the two thousand six election. A dedicated member of the Liberal Party of Canada, Bradshaw's political career was marked by her commitment to social issues, particularly homelessness.

Her political journey began with her appointment as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for International Cooperation and Minister Responsible for the Francophonie shortly after her election. On November twenty-third, nineteen ninety-eight, she was elevated to cabinet as Minister of Labour, a role she would hold multiple times throughout her career, including reappointments in January two thousand two and December twelve, two thousand three. Additionally, from March twenty-third, nineteen ninety-nine, until July twentieth, two thousand four, she served as the Federal Coordinator on Homelessness, showcasing her dedication to addressing critical social issues.

After the two thousand four election, Bradshaw faced a cabinet shuffle that resulted in her demotion to Minister of State for Human Resources Development. In November two thousand five, she announced her decision not to seek re-election in the upcoming federal election. Following her departure from federal politics, there was speculation about her potential candidacy for the provincial Liberals in the riding of Kent South, but she ultimately chose not to return to electoral politics. Instead, she served as a special advisor to leader Shawn Graham during that election campaign.

In recognition of her contributions, Bradshaw was appointed a member of the Order of New Brunswick in two thousand nine and received the Human Rights Award of the Province of Brunswick in two thousand twenty. Sadly, she passed away on March twenty-six, two thousand twenty-two, at the age of seventy-two after a battle with cancer. She is laid to rest at the Our Lady of Cavalry Cemetery in Dieppe, New Brunswick, leaving behind a legacy of public service and advocacy.
