Claudia Rodríguez de Guevara

Claudia Rodríguez de Guevara, born in 1980, is a prominent Salvadoran politician and accountant who made history as the first woman to hold presidential powers in El Salvador. Her political journey took a significant turn when she was appointed as the presidential designate on 30 November 2023, following the Legislative Assembly's decision to grant President Nayib Bukele a leave of absence to focus on his re-election campaign.

Before her ascent to the presidency, Rodríguez served as a finance manager for Bukele from 2019 to 2023, showcasing her expertise in financial management. Her career in public service includes notable roles such as the Director of Municipal Works in 2021 and Bukele's private secretary in 2022, where she played a crucial role in the administration's operations.

Rodríguez assumed the presidential duties on 1 December 2023, a move that has sparked controversy among constitutional lawyers who argue that her appointment may violate the country's constitution.
