Claudius Gothicus

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Claudius Gothicus

Marcus Aurelius Claudius, known as Claudius II or Claudius Gothicus, was born on May tenth, two hundred fourteen. He rose to prominence as a Roman emperor, serving from two hundred sixty-eight until his untimely death in two hundred seventy. His reign was marked by significant military achievements, particularly against the Alemanni and the Goths.

Claudius II is perhaps best remembered for his decisive victory at the Battle of Naissus, where he successfully defeated the Goths, solidifying his reputation as a formidable military leader. His strategic prowess in battle not only defended the Empire's borders but also earned him the respect and admiration of his contemporaries.

Tragically, Claudius's reign was cut short when he succumbed to a devastating illness, believed to be the Plague of Cyprian, which had ravaged the provinces of the Empire. His death in August or September of two hundred seventy marked the end of a brief but impactful rule.
