Clayton Blackmore, born on September 23, 1964, is a distinguished Welsh former international footballer and coach. Renowned for his combative style, he was a versatile player who excelled in both defensive and midfield roles, making a significant impact on the pitch with his attacking free kicks.
Blackmore's professional journey began at Manchester United in 1982, where he honed his skills through the youth ranks. Over a remarkable twelve-year tenure, he made one hundred eighty-six league appearances, establishing himself as a key player before transferring to Middlesbrough on a free transfer.
During his five years at Middlesbrough, he added fifty-three league appearances to his record, including a brief loan spell at Bristol City in 1996. After leaving Middlesbrough in 1999, Blackmore had short stints with Barnsley, Notts County, and Leigh RMI, before embarking on a more extended chapter with Bangor City in 2000, where he made one hundred seventy-six league appearances and briefly served as player-manager.
In 2006, he departed Bangor City and took on a player-manager role at Porthmadog, later joining Neath Athletic in 2007, where he contributed an additional twenty-two league appearances before retiring in 2010. On the international stage, Blackmore proudly represented Wales, earning thirty-nine caps between 1985 and 1997.
