As a Canadian professional lacrosse goalie and ice hockey goaltender, he made a significant impact on the sport, playing for renowned teams such as the Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Maroons. Notably, Benedict was the first goaltender in the National Hockey League (NHL) to wear a face mask, a groundbreaking innovation that would change the way the position was played.
