Colby Cave

Colby Cave was a talented Canadian professional ice hockey player, known for his role as a centre in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Boston Bruins and the Edmonton Oilers. Born on December 26, 1994, in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Cave's journey in hockey began in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League, where he honed his skills in minor ice hockey.

In 2009, Cave was selected in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft by the Kootenay Ice. However, his junior ice hockey rights were traded to the Swift Current Broncos in 2011. After an impressive career in junior hockey, he entered the professional arena as an undrafted free agent in 2015, signing an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins. Over the next five seasons, he developed within the Bruins' system before being claimed off waivers by the Oilers.

Throughout his NHL career from 2015 to 2020, Cave made a total of sixty-seven appearances, contributing nine points to his teams. His dedication and passion for the sport were evident in every game he played.

Tragically, on the evening of April 6, 2020, Cave began experiencing severe headaches, which led to a rapid decline in his condition. He was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, where emergency surgery was performed to remove a colloid cyst causing a brain bleed. After spending four days in a medically induced coma, he passed away on April 11, 2020, at the young age of twenty-five. His untimely death prompted an outpouring of grief from teammates, coaches, and fans, leading to the establishment of the Colby Cave Memorial Fund in his honor.
