Colette Bourgonje

Colette Bourgonje, born on January seventeenth, nineteen sixty-two, is a distinguished Canadian Paralympic cross-country skier and athlete of Métis heritage. Her remarkable achievements include winning four bronze medals at the Summer Paralympics, alongside notable successes in the Winter Paralympics, where she has made her mark in skiing.

One of her most significant accomplishments came during the 2010 Winter Paralympics, where she earned a silver medal in the 10 km sit-ski event, marking a historic moment as Canada's first medal won on home soil. Beyond her athletic prowess, Colette contributes to her community as a part-time physical education substitute teacher, currently residing in Prince Albert.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to sports, an elementary school and a street in Saskatoon have been named in her honor. Additionally, in nineteen ninety-seven, a sign was erected in Porcupine Plain, celebrating her achievements and highlighting her status as a successful Paralympian.

Colette's legacy continues to be celebrated, as she was awarded the Order of Sport, leading to her induction into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in two thousand nineteen.
