Condoleezza Rice

Condoleezza Rice, born on November 14, 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama, is a distinguished American diplomat and political scientist. She made history as the 66th United States Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009 and as the 19th U.S. National Security Advisor from 2001 to 2005. A member of the Republican Party, Rice was the first African-American woman to hold the position of Secretary of State and the first woman to serve as National Security Advisor, marking significant milestones in U.S. history.

Rice's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Denver, followed by a master's degree from the University of Notre Dame. She earned her PhD from the School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1981. Her career in public service commenced at the State Department during the Carter administration, and she later served on the National Security Council under President George H. W. Bush during pivotal moments such as the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

In 2000, Rice joined the George W. Bush administration as National Security Advisor, and in his second term, she succeeded Colin Powell as Secretary of State. During her tenure, she championed the policy of Transformational Diplomacy, aimed at promoting democratic governance worldwide, particularly in the Greater Middle East. Despite facing challenges, including the rise of Hamas and the persistence of authoritarian regimes, Rice's leadership was instrumental in shaping U.S. foreign policy.

After her time in government, Rice returned to academia, becoming a political science professor and the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. In 2020, she was appointed as the director of the Hoover Institution, further solidifying her influence in both academic and policy circles. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Directors for Dropbox and Makena Capital Management, LLC, showcasing her diverse expertise beyond politics.
