Constantin Henriquez

Constantin Henriquez, a pioneering athlete born in Haiti in 1880, made significant contributions to the world of sports and politics. As a versatile player, he excelled in rugby union, playing as number eight, wing, and centre. His remarkable talent was recognized on an international stage when he became the first known black athlete to compete in the Olympic Games, earning a gold medal as part of the French squad that triumphed in the inaugural Rugby Olympic Tournament.

Henriquez's club career flourished at Olympique de Paris and Stade Français, where he achieved notable success. He was instrumental in leading Stade Français to victory, securing the titles of French Champion in the years nineteen ninety-seven, nineteen ninety-eight, and nineteen oh-one. His athletic prowess not only brought him personal accolades but also paved the way for future generations of athletes.

In addition to his achievements in rugby, Henriquez played a crucial role in introducing football to Haiti in nineteen oh-four, where he scored the first goal in a competitive match.
