His professional journey commenced with Bologna in two thousand, where he honed his skills until two thousand four, with a brief loan at Spezia. Zaccardo's career took a significant turn when he joined Palermo, where he gained prominence over four seasons, establishing himself as a key player.

In two thousand eight, he made a move to Germany, signing with VfL Wolfsburg, where he celebrated winning the Bundesliga title in the two thousand eight to two thousand nine season. The following year, he returned to Italy, playing for Parma, and later joined AC Milan in two thousand thirteen. His career continued with a stint at Carpi in two thousand fifteen, followed by a loan to Vicenza during the two thousand sixteen to two thousand seventeen season.
