Crystal Eastman

Crystal Eastman, born on June twenty-fifth, eighteen eighty-one, was a remarkable American lawyer, journalist, and peace activist. Her multifaceted career was marked by a deep commitment to social justice, feminism, and the fight for women's rights. As a prominent figure in the suffrage movement, she dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of women and promoting equality.

In addition to her legal work, Eastman was a co-founder and co-editor of the influential radical arts and politics magazine, The Liberator, alongside her brother Max Eastman. This publication became a platform for progressive ideas and a voice for those advocating for change during a tumultuous time in American history.

Eastman's activism extended beyond suffrage; she was a co-founder of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, emphasizing her commitment to peace and anti-militarism. In nineteen twenty, she played a pivotal role in establishing the American Civil Liberties Union, an organization dedicated to defending individual rights and liberties.
