Crystal Pite, born on December fifteenth, nineteen seventy, is a distinguished Canadian choreographer and dancer whose career has spanned over three decades. She embarked on her professional journey in nineteen eighty-eight with Ballet BC and later joined Ballett Frankfurt in nineteen ninety-six, where she honed her craft under the guidance of the renowned William Forsythe.
After her tenure at Ballett Frankfurt, Pite served as the resident choreographer for Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal from two thousand one to two thousand four. She then returned to Vancouver, where she dedicated herself to choreographing while also performing in her own works until two thousand ten. In two thousand two, she founded her own company, Kidd Pivot, which has since produced a series of original works, including Uncollected Work (two thousand three), Double Story (two thousand four), and Betroffenheit (two thousand fifteen), among others.
Pite's innovative choreography has garnered international acclaim, leading to commissions from prestigious dance companies such as the Netherlands Dans Theater and the National Ballet of Canada. Her work Emergence (two thousand nine) received four Dora Mavor Moore Awards, highlighting her impact on the dance community. In two thousand ten, Kidd Pivot became the resident dance company at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt, where she premiered several notable pieces, including The You Show (two thousand ten) and The Tempest Replica (two thousand eleven).
In two thousand thirteen, Pite became an Associate Artist at Sadler's Wells in London, where she created Polaris (two thousand fifteen), collaborating with both Kidd Pivot dancers and sixty students from New York University. Her recent works, including Revisor (two thousand nineteen), co-created with Jonathon Young, continue to showcase her artistic vision. Throughout her illustrious career, Pite has choreographed over fifty works for esteemed companies worldwide, solidifying her status as a leading figure in contemporary dance.
