Cunigunde of Luxembourg

Cunigunde of Luxembourg, also known as Cunegundes, Cunegunda, and Cunegonda, was born around the year nine hundred seventy-eight. She emerged as a significant figure in the Holy Roman Empire, not only through her marriage to Holy Roman Emperor Henry II but also as a powerful sovereign in her own right.

As Empress, Cunigunde played a crucial role in the political landscape of her time. Following the death of her husband in the year one thousand twenty-four, she took on the mantle of interim regent, demonstrating her capability and strength in leadership during a tumultuous period.

Beyond her political influence, Cunigunde is revered as a saint and holds the title of patroness of Luxembourg. Her legacy is celebrated annually on her feast day, which falls on the third of March, marking her enduring impact on both religious and national identity.
