Cynthia McKinney

Cynthia McKinney, born on March seventeenth, nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished former American politician, academic, and peace activist. She made history as the first African American woman elected to represent Georgia in the United States House of Representatives, serving six terms as a member of the Democratic Party. Her political journey began in the Georgia House of Representatives, where she served from nineteen eighty-eight to nineteen ninety-two.

In the nineteen ninety-two election, McKinney was elected to Georgia's newly re-created eleventh district and was re-elected in nineteen ninety-four. Following a redistricting due to the Supreme Court ruling in Miller v. Johnson, she successfully ran for the new fourth district in the nineteen ninety-six election, securing re-election twice more without significant opposition. However, her tenure faced challenges, including a defeat in the two thousand two Democratic primary.

After a brief hiatus, McKinney returned to Congress in November two thousand four, following her predecessor's Senate run. During her time in office, she was known for her outspoken criticism of the Bush administration, particularly regarding the September eleventh attacks. She introduced articles of impeachment against President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and sought to unseal FBI records related to the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Tupac Shakur.

In two thousand six, McKinney sought re-election but was defeated by Hank Johnson in the Democratic primary. A notable incident occurred in March of that year when she struck a Capitol Hill police officer who had stopped her for identification. In September two thousand seven, she left the Democratic Party and later became the Green Party's presidential nominee in the two thousand eight election, garnering one hundred sixty-one thousand seven hundred ninety-seven votes nationwide. In two thousand twenty, she was nominated for vice president by the Green Party of Alaska.
