In the year two thousand nine, Cyprus made its mark at the Eurovision Song Contest with the enchanting song "Firefly," a creation of the talented Nikolas Metaxas. The song was performed by the gifted Christina Metaxa, who brought a unique flair to the competition.

The journey to Eurovision began with a national final organized by the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC). This event, held on the seventh of February in two thousand ten, showcased ten diverse entries, ultimately leading to the selection of Metaxa and her captivating performance of "Firefly."

Cyprus was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on the fourteenth of May in two thousand nine. Positioned seventh in the lineup, "Firefly" faced tough competition and, unfortunately, did not qualify for the final, placing fourteenth out of nineteen participating countries with a total of thirty-two points.
