Cyril Archibald

Cyril Archibald was a prominent figure in Ontario's political landscape during the late nineteenth century. Born in Osnabruck Township in Upper Canada in 1837, he was the son of John Archibald and Eliza Dixon. His early education took place at Upper Canada College, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors.

Archibald's commitment to public service was evident as he served as reeve of Osnabruck from eighteen sixty-six to eighteen sixty-nine. His military service during the Fenian Raid of eighteen seventy, where he held the rank of Lieutenant in No. 6 company of the 59th Stormont and Glengarry Battalion, further showcased his dedication to his community.

In the political arena, Archibald represented Stormont as a Liberal member in the House of Commons of Canada from eighteen seventy-two to eighteen seventy-eight. His contributions to local governance and military service were complemented by his role as paymaster for the local militia.

In eighteen eighty-one, he married Gertrude Wood and later ventured to Dundas, Minnesota, to join his brother Edward's flour milling business. After retiring from this venture in eighteen ninety-two, he settled in Northfield, Minnesota, where he lived until his passing in nineteen fourteen.
