Cyrus I

Cyrus I of Anshan, a prominent figure in ancient Persia, reigned as the King of Anshan from approximately six hundred to five hundred eighty BC, although some sources suggest his rule began as early as six hundred fifty-two BC. His legacy is particularly significant as he is the grandfather of the renowned Cyrus the Great, also known as Cyrus II, who would go on to establish one of the largest empires in history.

In the annals of history, Cyrus I is often recognized for his contributions to the early formation of Persian identity and governance. His reign marked a pivotal period in the development of the region, setting the stage for the future expansion and consolidation of power that would characterize his grandson's rule.

In modern Persian, his name is rendered as کوروش (Kūroš), while in Greek, he is referred to as Κῦρος (Kȳros).
