Czesława Kwoka was a Polish Catholic girl born on August 15, 1928. Tragically, her life was cut short at the tender age of fourteen when she became one of the countless victims of the Holocaust, murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp.
As a minor among the many Polish children and teenagers targeted by Nazi Germany, Czesława's story is a poignant reminder of the atrocities committed during this dark chapter in history. Her memory is preserved in the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, where she is honored in the exhibit titled 'Block no. 6: Exhibition: The Life of the Prisoners.'
Photographs of Czesława, captured by the renowned Auschwitz photographer Wilhelm Brasse between 1940 and 1945, are part of the museum's photographic memorial. These images serve as a haunting testament to the lives lost and the stories untold, with Brasse discussing several of these poignant photographs in the documentary 'The Portraitist,' released in two thousand five.
