D. C. Fontana

D. C. Fontana, born on March twenty-fifth, nineteen thirty-nine, is a celebrated American screenwriter and story editor, renowned for her pivotal contributions to the original Star Trek series. Her journey in television began after a brief stint as a secretary for Samuel A. Peeples, leading her to work with Del Reisman, a producer on The Lieutenant, which was created by the iconic Gene Roddenberry.

Although The Lieutenant was short-lived, Fontana's talent caught Roddenberry's attention, and she was appointed as the story editor for Star Trek. After the second season, she transitioned to freelance work, yet her collaboration with Roddenberry continued on projects like Genesis II and Star Trek: The Animated Series, where she served as both story editor and associate producer.

Throughout the seventies and early eighties, Fontana's expertise graced numerous television shows, including The Streets of San Francisco, Bonanza, The Six Million Dollar Man, Logan's Run, The Waltons, and Dallas. Her relationship with Roddenberry was complex; although he brought her on board for Star Trek: The Next Generation, their collaboration led to tensions and a claim to the Writers Guild of America.

Fontana's legacy extends beyond her work on Star Trek, as she also penned episodes for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the fan-made series Star Trek: New Voyages. Her contributions to the genre have been recognized with her induction into the Museum of Pop Culture's Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame, the Morgan Cox Award from the Writers Guild of America in two thousand two, and two honors from the American Screenwriters Association's hall of fame.
