Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of D. S. Senanayake

D. S. Senanayake, born on October twentieth, eighteen eighty-four, was a prominent Ceylonese statesman and the first Prime Minister of Ceylon. He played a pivotal role in the Sri Lankan independence movement, which ultimately led to the establishment of self-rule in Ceylon. His contributions to the nation have earned him the esteemed title of the 'Father of the Nation.'

Senanayake hailed from the village of Botale, where he was born to an entrepreneur. His early education took place at S. Thomas' College in Mutwal. Following a brief stint as a clerk in the Surveyor General's Department, he joined the family business, overseeing the family estates and the Kahatagaha Graphite Mine.

Involvement in the temperance movement marked the beginning of his political journey, which intensified after the Sinhalese-Muslim riots of nineteen fifteen. During this tumultuous period, Senanayake and his brothers were imprisoned without charges for forty-six days. His political career took off in nineteen twenty-four when he was elected unopposed to the Legislative Council of Ceylon from Negombo, where he became the Secretary of the unofficial members group.

By nineteen thirty-one, he was elected to the State Council of Ceylon, serving as Minister of Agriculture and Lands. His political ascent culminated in his election to the first Parliament of Ceylon, where he formed a government and served as Prime Minister from nineteen forty-seven until his passing in nineteen fifty-two.
