Daisaku Ikeda

Daisaku Ikeda, born on January second, nineteen twenty-eight, is a prominent Japanese Buddhist leader, writer, and educator. He is best known for his role as the third president and honorary president of Soka Gakkai, a significant new religious movement in Japan. While the organization has garnered millions of followers, it has also faced criticism and been labeled a cult by some media outlets and political figures.

As the founding president of Soka Gakkai International, Ikeda has played a pivotal role in expanding the organization's reach beyond Japan. Although Soka Gakkai claims a membership of over eight million households in Japan, recent studies indicate that the active membership may be between two and four million, representing approximately two to three percent of the Japanese population. Globally, the organization boasts around eleven million practitioners across one hundred ninety-two countries and territories, with more than one and a half million residing outside Japan as of two thousand twelve.

Ikeda's influence extends beyond religious leadership; he is also a passionate advocate for nuclear disarmament and has founded numerous educational and cultural institutions. His notable contributions include the establishment of Soka University, Soka University of America, the Min-On Concert Association, and the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum. In addition to his educational endeavors, Ikeda is recognized for his efforts in fostering international relations, particularly with China.
