His career as a defenceman spanned a decade in the National Hockey League, where he showcased his skills with the Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Black Hawks, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

After hanging up his skates, Tallon transitioned into broadcasting, spending sixteen years with the Blackhawks. His deep understanding of the game led him to the front office in nineteen ninety-eight, where he initially served as the director of player personnel. His keen eye for talent and strategic vision propelled him to the role of general manager from two thousand five to two thousand nine, during which he played a pivotal role in rebuilding the team that ultimately clinched the Stanley Cup in two thousand ten.
