Daniel Pipes

Daniel Pipes, born on September ninth, nineteen forty-nine, is a prominent American journalist, writer, historian, and political scientist. He has made significant contributions to the discourse on foreign policy and the Middle East, serving as the president of the Middle East Forum and the publisher of its journal, Middle East Quarterly. His work primarily critiques Islamism and examines American foreign policy in relation to the Middle East.

Pipes earned his doctorate from Harvard University in nineteen seventy-eight and has taught at several prestigious institutions, including Harvard, the University of Chicago, and Pepperdine University. Although he has held short-term teaching positions at the U.S. Naval War College, he has never secured a permanent academic role. Following his academic pursuits, he directed the Foreign Policy Research Institute before founding the Middle East Forum.

Throughout his career, Pipes has been a controversial figure, particularly for his critical views on Islam, which have drawn accusations of Islamophobia from various Muslim American communities and academics. He has made contentious claims regarding the existence of 'no-go zones' in Europe and has controversially suggested that former U.S. President Barack Obama practices Islam. Additionally, he has defended the controversial book by Michelle Malkin, 'In Defense of Internment: The Case for Racial Profiling in World War II and the War on Terror.'

As an author, Pipes has written sixteen books and has held the position of Taube Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. His insights and analyses continue to provoke discussion and debate in the fields of foreign policy and Middle Eastern studies.
