Daniel Roby

Daniel Roby, born on October twenty-fifth, nineteen seventy, is a distinguished Canadian film director and cinematographer. He honed his craft at Concordia University and the University of Southern California, where he developed a strong foundation in film production. Before stepping into the director's chair, Roby gained valuable experience as a camera operator and cinematographer on various film and television projects.

In two thousand four, Roby made his directorial debut with the film White Skin (La Peau blanche), which garnered critical acclaim. The film won the award for Best Canadian First Feature Film at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Claude Jutra Award for best feature film by a first-time director at the twenty-fifth Genie Awards, marking a significant milestone in his career.

His subsequent projects continued to showcase his talent, with Funkytown premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in two thousand ten and later being released in two thousand eleven. Roby's third film, Louis Cyr, released in two thousand thirteen, achieved remarkable success, winning nine Jutra Awards in two thousand fourteen, including Best Film.

In two thousand fifteen, he expanded his repertoire by directing three episodes of the lavish Canal+ production Versailles, which had a budget of forty-five million dollars. His fourth film, Just a Breath Away (Dans la brume), was released in two thousand eighteen and received eight Canadian Screen Award nominations in two thousand nineteen, including Best Picture and a nomination for Roby as Best Director.

Continuing his impressive trajectory, Roby directed Most Wanted in two thousand twenty, a film based on the life of journalist Victor Malarek. In two thousand twenty-two, he took the helm for the third season of the TV series La Faille. Most recently, in two thousand twenty-three, he was announced as the director of Villeneuve, a biopic about the legendary Canadian auto racing driver Gilles Villeneuve.
