Daniel W. Bursch

Daniel W. Bursch, born on July 25, 1957, is a distinguished former NASA astronaut and a Captain in the United States Navy. His career is marked by an impressive record of four spaceflights, showcasing his dedication to advancing human exploration beyond our planet.

His initial three missions were aboard the Space Shuttle, each lasting between ten to eleven days. These missions laid the groundwork for his most significant achievement, a long-duration stay aboard the International Space Station as a member of Expedition 4.

From December 2001 to June 2002, Bursch participated in a remarkable 196-day mission, which at the time set a new record for the longest duration spaceflight by an American astronaut. This record was shared with his crewmate, Carl Walz, and while it has since been surpassed, their contributions to space exploration remain noteworthy.
