Daniel Dewan Sewell, widely recognized by his stage name Danny Brown, was born on March 16, 1981, in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up in a city rich with musical heritage, Brown was introduced to the world of hip-hop and house music by his father, a DJ. He began his journey in music at a young age, performing with local hip-hop groups while navigating the challenges of life, including a period of selling drugs to support himself.

In 2007, Brown faced a significant setback when he served eight months in jail due to a probation violation related to a drug case. However, this experience did not deter him from pursuing his passion for music. After his release, he self-released several mixtapes, including 'Hot Soup' in two thousand eight and 'Hawaiian Snow' in two thousand ten, collaborating with artists like Tony Yayo. His debut studio album, 'The Hybrid,' was also released in two thousand ten, marking a pivotal moment in his career.

Brown's breakthrough came in two thousand eleven when he signed with Fool's Gold Records. His mixtape 'XXX' garnered critical acclaim and significant attention, earning him the title of 'Artist of the Year' from both Spin and the Metro Times. The success continued with the non-album single 'Grown Up' in two thousand twelve, followed by his second studio album 'Old' in two thousand thirteen, which reached number eighteen on the U.S. Billboard 200 and featured popular singles like 'Dip' and 'Smokin & Drinkin.'

In two thousand sixteen, Brown signed with Warp Records, releasing the albums 'Atrocity Exhibition' and 'UKnoWhatImSayin?' to continued critical acclaim, although with a decline in commercial sales. In two thousand twenty-three, he released a collaborative album with JPEGMafia titled 'Scaring the Hoes' and his fifth studio album 'Quaranta.' After a transformative stint in rehab, during which he embraced sobriety, Brown is set to release his sixth studio album, the hyperpop-inspired 'Stardust,' in two thousand twenty-five. Known for his distinctive high-pitched vocal delivery and experimental approach to hip-hop, Brown has been hailed as one of rap's most unique figures.
