Dany Placard, born Dany Gauthier in 1977, is a talented Canadian singer-songwriter hailing from Laterrière, Quebec. His musical journey began after he studied at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where he developed his craft and passion for music.
In 1998, Placard made his mark on the music scene with the independent release of his debut album, L'Agent Placard. He later formed the band Plywood 3/4, which produced two albums, showcasing his versatility as an artist. In 2005, he returned to his solo career with the album Rang de l'église, further solidifying his presence in the Canadian music landscape.
His work has not gone unnoticed; in 2013, he received the Canadian Folk Music Award for Francophone Songwriter of the Year for his album Démon vert. He was also nominated in the same category in 2015 for his album Santa Maria, highlighting his continued excellence in songwriting.
Beyond music, Placard showcased his acting skills by playing the title character in the 2015 short film Blue Thunder (Bleu tonnerre), contributing to its soundtrack as well. His 2020 album J'connais rien à l'astronomie and the subsequent EP Astronomie (suite) featured collaborations with fellow artist Julie Doiron, who also appeared on Doiron's 2021 album I Thought of You. In early 2022, the duo announced an exciting collaborative album, Julie & Dany, set for release in April 2022.
