Danyon Loader

Danyon Loader, born on April twenty-first, nineteen seventy-five, is a celebrated swimmer from New Zealand, renowned for his remarkable achievements in the pool. Based in Dunedin, Loader has made a significant mark in the world of competitive swimming, particularly in the 400 metre freestyle short course, where he still holds the national record.

Loader represented New Zealand at two Summer Olympics, competing in Barcelona in nineteen ninety-two and Atlanta in nineteen ninety-six. His Olympic journey began with a silver medal in the 200 metre butterfly in Barcelona, followed by an extraordinary performance in Atlanta, where he clinched two gold medals in the 200 and 400 metre freestyle events. His prowess in the water also led him to set world records in the short course 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle.

In recognition of his contributions to swimming, Loader was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the nineteen ninety-seven New Year Honours. His legacy was further solidified when he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in two thousand three, celebrating his impact on the sport.
