Daphne Caruana Galizia

Daphne Caruana Galizia, born on August twenty-six, nineteen sixty-four, was a prominent Maltese investigative journalist, blogger, and anti-corruption activist. Renowned for her fearless reporting on political events in Malta, she gained international recognition for her in-depth investigations into the Panama Papers and the pervasive corruption within the Maltese government.

Throughout her career, Caruana Galizia focused on exposing government corruption, nepotism, and allegations of money laundering. Her work highlighted the troubling connections between Malta's online gambling industry and organized crime, as well as the controversial citizenship-by-investment scheme. She was a relentless critic of Maltese politicians and politically exposed persons, building a formidable reputation for her commitment to uncovering the truth.

Despite facing intimidation, threats, and numerous legal battles, Caruana Galizia continued to publish her findings on her personal blog, Running Commentary, which she established in two thousand eight. She also contributed regularly to The Sunday Times of Malta and later The Malta Independent. Her investigative reporting often sparked controversy, particularly in relation to sensitive information about Maltese politicians and the Panama Papers scandal.

Tragically, on October sixteenth, two thousand seventeen, Caruana Galizia was assassinated when a car bomb exploded in her vehicle near her home, an act that drew widespread condemnation both locally and internationally. Following her death, three men were arrested in connection with the attack, including Yorgen Fenech, who was apprehended in November two thousand nineteen. In April two thousand eighteen, an international consortium of journalists launched The Daphne Project to continue her investigative work, ensuring her legacy as a champion of truth and justice endures.
