Daphne Odjig

Daphne Odjig, born on September 11, 1919, was a remarkable Canadian First Nations artist, celebrated for her unique contributions to the art world. With a rich heritage that includes Odawa, Potawatomi, and English roots, her work is often recognized for its distinctive Woodlands Style and pictographic elements.

As a pivotal figure in the art community, Odjig was instrumental in founding the Professional Native Indian Artists Association, commonly referred to as the Indian Group of Seven. This collective played a crucial role in elevating First Nations art, ensuring it received the recognition it deserved within Canada's broader artistic landscape.
