With an impressive tally of twelve Olympic medals, she has made her mark as a world record-holder in three events. Torres holds the unique distinction of being the first swimmer to represent the United States in five Olympic Games, spanning from nineteen eighty-four to two thousand eight.

At the remarkable age of forty-one, she became the oldest swimmer to secure a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. During the two thousand eight Summer Olympics, she showcased her talent in the fifty-meter freestyle, four by one hundred meter medley relay, and four by one hundred meter freestyle relay, earning silver medals in all three events.

Throughout her illustrious career, Torres amassed twelve Olympic medals, including four gold, four silver, and four bronze. This achievement tied her with fellow American Jenny Thompson for the most Olympic women's swimming medals at that time. Notably, at the two thousand Summer Olympics, she won five medals, making her the oldest member of the U.S. Olympic swim team at thirty-three.
