Darko Miličić, born on June twentieth, nineteen eighty-five, is a Serbian former professional basketball player known for his towering height of two point thirteen meters, or seven feet. He played the center position and made his mark in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from two thousand three to two thousand twelve. Miličić earned the nickname 'the Human Victory Cigar' due to his unique role of only participating in games that were blowout wins or losses.
Selected as the second overall pick in the two thousand three NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons, Miličić was chosen after the legendary LeBron James and ahead of other future stars like Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade. Despite the high expectations that came with such a prestigious draft position, Miličić's performance in the NBA did not meet those expectations, leading many to label him a draft bust. Nevertheless, he was part of the Pistons team that won the NBA championship in two thousand four, although he did not see significant playing time.
After his time with the Pistons, Miličić was traded to the Orlando Magic in two thousand six, followed by stints with the Memphis Grizzlies and the New York Knicks. In two thousand ten, he joined the Minnesota Timberwolves, signing a four-year contract. However, his NBA journey came to an end in two thousand twelve when he played a single regular-season game for the Boston Celtics before announcing his retirement in two thousand thirteen. Over his career, he averaged six points and four point two rebounds per game.
In addition to his NBA career, Miličić also represented the Serbian national team in international competitions, showcasing his skills on a global stage.
