Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Darko Suvin

Darko Suvin, born on July nineteenth, nineteen thirty, in Zagreb, then part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, is a distinguished Canadian academic and writer. He has made significant contributions as a sociologist, literary critic, science fiction writer, and university teacher, currently holding the title of professor emeritus at McGill University in Montreal.

After completing his early education and teaching at the Department for Comparative Literature at Zagreb University, Suvin began his literary career by writing books and poems in his native Croatian. In nineteen sixty-seven, he left Yugoslavia and commenced his teaching journey at McGill University the following year, in nineteen sixty-eight.

Suvin is renowned for his critical works and literary history focused on science fiction. He served as the editor of Science-Fiction Studies from nineteen seventy-three to nineteen eighty. Following his retirement from McGill in nineteen ninety-nine, he relocated to Lucca, Italy, where he continues to engage with literary scholarship.

In two thousand nine, he was honored with the Croatian SFera Award for lifetime achievement in science fiction and is a proud member of the Croatian Writers Society. His memoirs, published in the Croatian cultural journal Gordogan in two thousand sixteen, reflect on his youth during the Nazi occupation and the early years of Josip Tito's Yugoslavia. His book, Splendour, Misery, and Potentialities: An X-ray of Socialist Yugoslavia, has become a significant reference in the field of post-Yugoslav studies.
