Darrell Dexter

Darrell Dexter, born on September tenth, nineteen fifty-seven, is a prominent Canadian lawyer and politician who made significant contributions to the political landscape of Nova Scotia. He served as the twenty-seventh premier of the province from two thousand nine to two thousand thirteen, leading the first New Democratic Party (NDP) government in Atlantic Canada.

As a dedicated member of the NDP, Dexter held the position of party leader from two thousand one until two thousand thirteen. His leadership culminated in a historic victory in two thousand nine, when his party defeated the governing Progressive Conservative Party, marking a pivotal moment in the region's political history.

However, Dexter's government faced challenges, and in the two thousand thirteen election, it was defeated, making it the first Nova Scotia government in one hundred thirty-one years to be denied a second mandate. In a closely contested race, Dexter lost his constituency by a mere twenty-one votes.
