Throughout his time in the NHL, Shannon showcased his skills with several teams, including the Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, Atlanta Thrashers, Calgary Flames, and Montreal Canadiens. Despite facing a serious illness, he managed to play a total of five hundred forty-four regular season games, where he scored twenty-eight goals and provided one hundred eleven assists, accumulating one hundred thirty-nine points along with five hundred twenty-three penalty minutes.
