In August 2019, Núñez made a significant move to Spanish Segunda División club Almería for a club record fee. His career took another leap in 2020 when he signed with Benfica for a record transfer worth twenty-four million euros, marking the highest signing in Portuguese football history. During his second season with Benfica, he showcased his exceptional talent by winning the Bola de Prata as the top scorer in the Primeira Liga, netting twenty-six goals in twenty-eight games. His outstanding performance earned him a spot in the Primeira Liga Team of the Year and the title of Primeira Liga Player of the Year.

In 2022, Núñez joined Liverpool for a substantial transfer fee of seventy-five million euros, equivalent to sixty-four million pounds. His time at Liverpool was marked by success, culminating in winning the Premier League title for the 2024–25 season.
