David Backes, born on May first, nineteen eighty-four, is a distinguished American former professional ice hockey forward. Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, he spent his formative years in Spring Lake Park, where his passion for hockey began to flourish. Over the course of his impressive career, Backes played for fifteen seasons in the National Hockey League, representing teams such as the St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, and Anaheim Ducks.

Backes's journey to the NHL began after two successful seasons with the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League. His talent was recognized when he was selected sixty-second overall by the St. Louis Blues in the two thousand three NHL entry draft. He then joined the Minnesota State Mavericks men's hockey team, competing in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for three seasons. Choosing to forgo his senior year, Backes turned professional with the Blues, initially playing for their American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

Midway through the two thousand six to two thousand seven season, Backes made his NHL debut, securing a roster spot with the Blues. His leadership qualities shone through, and after five seasons, he was appointed team captain, a testament to his dedication and skill on the ice. In addition to his club success, Backes has proudly represented the United States on the international stage, earning a silver medal at the two thousand ten Winter Olympics in Vancouver and participating in three IIHF World Championships.
