David Florence, born on August 8, 1982, is a distinguished retired British slalom canoeist whose career spanned from 1999 to 2021. Renowned for his exceptional skills, he made a significant mark in the world of competitive canoeing, achieving remarkable success on the international stage.
Florence's accolades include being a two-time world champion in the individual single canoe (C1) in 2013 and 2015, as well as a world champion in double canoe (C2) in 2013, a title he shared with fellow canoeist Richard Hounslow. His unique achievement of winning both the C1 and C2 titles at the same World Championships made him the first to do so since Charles Dussuet, who accomplished this feat sixty years prior.
In addition to his world championship titles, Florence showcased his talent at the Olympic Games, where he earned silver medals in three consecutive events. He secured a silver in the C1 category in 2008 and followed it up with two more silvers in the C2 category in 2012 and 2016, again partnering with Hounslow.
