David Hurley

David Hurley, born on August twenty-six, nineteen fifty-three, is a distinguished Australian former politician and military officer. His extensive career in the Australian Army spanned over four decades, during which he held several key positions, including the Chief of the Defence Force, a role he assumed on July fourth, two thousand eleven.

Throughout his military tenure, Hurley demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment. He was deployed on Operation Solace in Somalia in nineteen ninety-three and commanded the 1st Brigade from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand. His contributions to military strategy were further recognized when he served as the inaugural Chief of Capability Development Group from two thousand three to two thousand seven, followed by his role as Chief of Joint Operations from two thousand seven to two thousand eight.

In June two thousand fourteen, Hurley retired from the army and transitioned into public service as the governor of New South Wales, succeeding Marie Bashir. His term, which began in October two thousand fourteen, lasted until May two thousand nineteen. Following this, he was appointed as the twenty-seventh governor-general of Australia by Queen Elizabeth II, on the nomination of Prime Minister Scott Morrison, with his term commencing in July two thousand nineteen and concluding in July two thousand twenty-four.
