David Laurence MacLaren

David Laurence MacLaren, born on October twenty-seventh, nineteen ninety-three, in Saint John, New Brunswick, was a prominent Canadian politician who served as the 20th Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick. His political career began to flourish when he was appointed Minister of National Revenue in April nineteen forty-five under the Liberal cabinet of Prime Minister Mackenzie King.

Despite his efforts, MacLaren faced defeat in the nineteen forty-five election for the riding of St. John—Albert. However, his dedication to public service did not wane, as he went on to serve as Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick from nineteen forty-five until nineteen fifty-eight. In nineteen fifty-eight, he returned to local politics, being elected mayor of Saint John, a position he held until his passing.

MacLaren's life was marked by his courageous service during World War I, where he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force with the Royal Canadian Artillery, specifically the 7th Siege Battery. He fought valiantly at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, where he sustained a gunshot wound that resulted in the amputation of his right leg above the knee. After a period of recovery, he adapted to his new circumstances with the aid of an artificial leg, demonstrating remarkable resilience.
