David Luiz

David Luiz, born on April 22, 1987, is a distinguished Brazilian professional footballer renowned for his defensive prowess. Currently playing as a defender for Cypriot First Division club Pafos, Luiz primarily operates as a centre-back but has also showcased his versatility as a defensive midfielder. His remarkable ability to take free-kicks and his commanding presence on the pitch have earned him recognition as one of the finest defenders of his generation.

Luiz began his career at Vitoria before making a significant move to Benfica, where he spent five seasons, three of which were complete. In January 2011, he joined Chelsea, marking a pivotal moment in his career. During his time with the club, he played a crucial role in their triumph in the UEFA Champions League in the 2011–12 season, followed by a victory in the UEFA Europa League the subsequent year.

In June 2014, Luiz transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of fifty million pounds, setting a world record for a defender at that time. His tenure in France was marked by success, as he clinched all four domestic competitions over two seasons. His exceptional performances earned him a spot in the FIFPRO Men's World 11 in 2014. After returning to Chelsea in August 2016 for a thirty million pound transfer, he added a Premier League title and a second Europa League title to his accolades.

In 2019, Luiz made a move to local rivals Arsenal before returning to Brazil to play for Flamengo in 2021. On the international stage, he made his full debut for Brazil in 2010 and has since accumulated over fifty caps. Luiz was part of the Brazilian squad that won the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and reached the semi-finals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, in addition to representing his nation in two editions of the Copa América.
