David Musulbes, born on May 28, 1972, is a distinguished retired wrestler of Georgian origin who made significant contributions to the sport while representing both Russia and Slovakia. His remarkable career is highlighted by his triumph at the 2000 Summer Olympics, where he clinched the gold medal in the freestyle 130 kg category.
In addition to his Olympic success, Musulbes showcased his prowess on the world stage by becoming the World Champion in freestyle 120 kg in both 2001 and 2002. His dedication and skill in wrestling earned him a reputation as one of the top competitors in his weight class.
In 2007, Musulbes transitioned to represent Slovakia after gaining Slovak citizenship. He continued to excel, participating in the 2008 Summer Olympics, where he initially secured a bronze medal in freestyle 120 kg. However, following the disqualification of Artur Taymazov due to a positive doping test, Musulbes was elevated to the silver medal position, further solidifying his legacy in the sport.
Currently residing in Moscow, Musulbes contributes to the development of future athletes as the director of the Moscow Secondary Special Olympic Reserve School No. 1, where he shares his extensive knowledge and experience with aspiring wrestlers.
