David Schweikert, born on March third, nineteen sixty-two, is a prominent American politician and businessman. He has been serving as the U.S. representative for Arizona's 1st congressional district since two thousand twenty-three. Prior to this role, he represented the 6th congressional district from two thousand thirteen to two thousand twenty-three and the 5th district from two thousand eleven to two thousand thirteen. A member of the Republican Party, his current district encompasses much of northern Phoenix, along with Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Cave Creek.
Schweikert's political career began in the Arizona State House of Representatives, where he served from nineteen ninety-one to nineteen ninety-four. He later chaired the state Board of Equalization from nineteen ninety-five to two thousand four and held the position of Maricopa County treasurer from two thousand four to two thousand seven. His extensive experience in both state and federal government has established him as a significant figure in Arizona politics.
In a notable development, Schweikert and fellow Congressman Paul Gosar have shared the deanship of Arizona's congressional delegation since the passing of Raúl Grijalva on March thirteenth, two thousand twenty-five. In September of the same year, Schweikert made headlines by announcing his decision not to seek re-election to the U.S. House, opting instead to pursue the Republican nomination for the Arizona gubernatorial election in two thousand twenty-six.
