David VI

David VI, also known as David the Clever, was born in the year 1225 and belonged to the illustrious Bagrationi dynasty. He ascended to the throne as a joint king, or mepe, of Georgia alongside his cousin David VII from the year 1246 until 1256. This period marked a significant chapter in Georgian history, characterized by the complexities of royal lineage and governance.

In the year 1259, David VI made a pivotal decision to secede, establishing his own rule over the Kingdom of Western Georgia. He adopted the title David I and governed until his death in 1293. During this time, his cousin David VII continued to preside over a diminished Kingdom of Georgia in the eastern region, which was under the influence of Mongol control.

David VI's reign was marked by his clever strategies and political acumen, which earned him the moniker 'the Clever.' His leadership during a tumultuous era showcased his ability to navigate the challenges posed by external forces and internal dynamics within the kingdom.
