David Wright

David Wright, born on December 20, 1982, is a celebrated American former professional baseball third baseman, renowned for his remarkable fourteen-year career with the New York Mets. Drafted by the Mets in the 2001 MLB draft, he made his Major League Baseball debut on July 21, 2004, at Shea Stadium, quickly establishing himself as a key player in the franchise.

Wright's international acclaim soared during the 2013 World Baseball Classic, where he earned the nickname 'Captain America' for leading the tournament with ten runs batted in and a batting average of .438. His exceptional performance earned him a spot on the All-World Baseball Classic Team, further solidifying his status as a top-tier athlete.

Throughout his illustrious career, Wright was selected as an All-Star seven times and received two Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Slugger Awards. He is also a proud member of the 30–30 club and holds numerous franchise records, including being the Mets' all-time leader in career plate appearances. In 2013, he was named the team's captain, becoming only the fourth player in Mets history to hold this honor.

Despite facing significant challenges due to injuries, particularly spinal stenosis, Wright's dedication to the game remained unwavering. After a series of setbacks that kept him off the field from 2015 to 2018, he announced that the 2018 season would be his last as an active player. He concluded his major league career with a commendable .296 batting average, two hundred forty-two home runs, and nine hundred seventy runs batted in.

Following his retirement, Wright transitioned into a role as a special advisor in the Mets front office, continuing to contribute to the organization he devoted his career to.
