Davide Ghirlandaio, born in the year fourteen fifty-two, was a prominent Italian painter and mosaicist who made significant contributions to the art scene in Florence. Known also as David Ghirlandaio and Davide Bigordi, he was part of a talented family of artists, with his brothers Benedetto and Domenico Ghirlandaio, both of whom were accomplished painters, and his nephew Ridolfo Ghirlandaio continuing the family legacy.
Initially, Davide served as an assistant to his elder brother Domenico, who was a leading figure in the Florentine art world. Their collaboration flourished, and Davide eventually became a partner in Domenico's studio. Following the untimely death of Domenico in fourteen ninety-four, Davide took the reins of the studio, ensuring the continuation of their artistic endeavors.
Under Davide's guidance, the studio trained the next generation of artists, including his nephew Ridolfo, who would go on to establish his own reputation in the art community. Davide's expertise extended beyond painting; he was also involved in the intricate mosaic decoration of the Orvieto Cathedral, showcasing his versatility and skill in various artistic mediums.
