Dawn Richard, born on August fifth, nineteen eighty-three, is a talented American singer and songwriter hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana. She first captured the public's attention in two thousand four when she auditioned for MTV's Making the Band 3, which led to the formation of the girl group Danity Kane. The group, signed under Sean 'Diddy' Combs's Bad Boy Records, released three studio albums before their temporary disbandment in two thousand nine.
In July of the same year, Richard took a bold step by forming the musical trio Diddy – Dirty Money alongside Combs and fellow R&B artist Kalenna Harper. Their debut album, Last Train to Paris, released in two thousand ten, received both critical and commercial acclaim, supported by two mixtapes before the group's disbandment in two thousand twelve. The following year, she reunited with three of her original Danity Kane members to produce one more album, DK3, which was released in two thousand thirteen.
While still with Danity Kane, Richard embarked on a solo career, debuting with her album Been a While in two thousand five. After leaving Bad Boy Records in two thousand eleven, she rebranded herself as DΔWN, later stylized as DAWN. Her subsequent albums, released as a trilogy—Goldenheart in two thousand thirteen, Blackheart in two thousand fifteen, and Redemption in two thousand sixteen—showcased her experimentation with alternative dance and electronic music.
Richard's fifth and sixth albums, New Breed in two thousand nineteen and Second Line in two thousand twenty-one, were both met with critical acclaim, further solidifying her place in the music industry. In two thousand eighteen, she expanded her artistic horizons by co-producing and starring in the erotic action thriller Kinky, although the film received mixed reviews.
