Dawn Upshaw, born on July seventeenth, nineteen sixty, is a distinguished American soprano celebrated for her remarkable contributions to both opera and art song. Her extensive repertoire encompasses works from the Baroque era to contemporary compositions, showcasing her versatility and artistry.
Throughout her illustrious career, Upshaw has been honored with several Grammy Awards and has released numerous Edison Award-winning recordings. She has collaborated with a variety of esteemed composers, including Henri Dutilleux, Osvaldo Golijov, John Harbison, Esa-Pekka Salonen, David Bruce, John Adams, and Kaija Saariaho, many of whom have composed works specifically for her unique voice.
In two thousand seven, she received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, recognizing her exceptional talent and influence in the world of music. Additionally, in two thousand six, she founded the Graduate Vocal Arts Program at Bard College Conservatory in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, where she served as artistic director until two thousand nineteen.
